MNÉMOSYNE

A stress burl formed through prolonged and highly irregular stress within an Eastern White Cedar, a softwood species in which burls are encountered less commonly than in many hardwoods. The tree's response is recorded in an extraordinarily disrupted structure: growth rings scatter, fuse together and change direction throughout the piece, making its original age impossible to determine reliably from ring counting. Instead of following a conventional sequence of annual rings, the wood preserves a fragmented record of how the tree grew around and through the formation.

The interior displays striking yellow coloration contrasted by vivid blue-purple epoxy accents, while the exterior retains the wild, fractured character of the cambium. Despite its substantial visual presence, the low density of cedar makes the piece remarkably lightweight.
