SYNALLAXIS

Recovered from a firewood mill by a keep-eyed worker, this Yellow Birch growth spent more than fifteen years moving from one storage area to another before being reclaimed for this work. Its exterior still carries scars from that journey.

Within the growth, insect damage created a network of openings that have been filled with translucent blue epoxy, revealing an almost topographic pattern of lakes, channels and waterways, symbolizing the landscape of the area which it grew in. Subtle brass lies beneath portions of the blue, adding another layer to the internal landscape.
