This Sugar Maple healed knot follows an open cavity that developed around the injured knot. The interior remains free of coloured inlay, allowing the pale grain and the contours of the opening to define the form.

Along the perimeter, retained bark creates a dark, irregular boundary between the carved surface and the original exterior. The contrast is simple but deliberate: smooth interior, rough exterior, and an opening left visible rather than concealed.
