HARMONIA

A Black Cherry healed branch knot shaped into a heart-shaped vessel and exposed to UV to deepen the naturally warm orange tones of the heartwood. The annual growth rings are unusually prominent and clearly defined, forming bold stripe-like bands that run through the interior and give the piece much of its visual character. Subtle chatoyancy moves across the figured grain, more pronounced than is typical for Cherry wood and adding visual depth to the surface.

Physical depth can be found in the central void, as it contains a layered inlay: an opaque, colourless epoxy layer sits above a field of green epoxy, with brass shavings suspended beneath it. The resulting layering reveals the different materials gradually, while the warm wood, green resin and brass create a restrained contrast within the natural formation.
